mini spring home tour

Mar 12

spring has arrived at our home!

spring has arrived outdoors….

and indoors too! i shared a mini holiday house tour last year. so i thought it would be fun to share how our spring decorating is coming along. decorating and organizing is never *complete* in this house, but the small, bright changes have made us smile a little bigger this week!

and everything was done on a budget!

we brightened up our sunny chair in the entry with a simple apple green pillow…

in the living room we brightened the couch with throw pillows – all of which we had on hand…
the living room mantle now feels like it’s vacationing on a sunny beach…
the large starfish shells were from a family trip to florida 3 years ago…

our splurge this season was updating this area behind the living room couch…

this little table was handed down years ago to my husband from his parents. he has owned it since he moved away to college. we are definitely going to keep it and find another spot in the house (maybe paint it?)….

we knew this little spot needed an update. but we are the couple that enjoys taking our time until we stumble upon that just right piece. what do you know, yesterday while browsing through pottery barn (of all places) guess what we found?…

it was love at first sight! my husband spotted it…and we were both pleased that it was not only on sale, but had further reductions as a floor sample sale item! there are a few flaws in the tabletop, but you can barely notice because the table has a rustic, unfinished look….

the table fits in perfectly with our wood detailing in the house. we love this table!

i finished it off with a few pieces we have on hand. all 3 candle holders were wedding gifts – from almost 10 years ago!…

moving on to the kitchen, i spruced up our mantle…

not only do i enjoy saving money while decorating, but i also enjoy displaying items with meaning. again, there are a few starfish from our trip to florida, the Easter snow globe and paperwhite plant are from my mother-in-law, and the bristle bunny is from our first Easter as a family…

you don’t need to spend a fortune decorating. a vase full of lemons is fresh, colorful and pretty. or a small handful of river rock makes a pretty addition to a vase of flowers…

this vase was a housewarming gift from a good friend. i filled it with sand and sand dollars from a San Francisco beach…

our kitchen buffet table/bar…

dining room table…

these 2 lanterns were on already on sale at pottery barn. but each was further reduced another 20% in price because both have a broken closure. they can be easily fixed with a small magnet or some handy work, but i was really happy to get them for such a great price…

yes, you can find great deals at the stores you drool over…but whose prices would otherwise make your pocketbook go into a coughing fit. 🙂

i did a simple update in our half-bath by swapping out the red flower for a white one and adding a brighter spring hand towel and candle…before:

after…

found the flower on sale at target for $9.99!

i hope you enjoyed this little spring tour! are you gearing up for spring by adding some brighter touches in your home? i’d love to hear about it!
