Our Amazing Playroom

Apr 20

Welcome to our playroom…

Wouldn’t any child love to play in a room like this….for hours on end, all day, every day?

I would and I do!

We are grateful to have the space in this home for such a fun and imagination-inspiring playroom…and all of their friends. The built-in playhouses are so much fun – for kids…and adults too.

There is a girly pink cottage…complete with windows and wooden shutters. Inside our daughter has her toddler toys and lots of play food. The kids love to play grocery store in this house, so we have a pretend cash register and shopping carts too….

The table in front of the cottage is a Thomas Train Table that I transformed into a doll house table. My daughter received a Calico Critters doll house for Christmas and needed a space for the doll house / various pieces. Since the boys weren’t playing trains very often, it became a doll house table for very little money. You can read more about that transformation here

On the boys side is a fun cabin…

There is a hook to the right of the door where the boys can hang their cowboy hats after a long day out on the range. Inside the cabin they keep loads of cars, trucks, planes and whatever their current favorites happen to be…

Between the playhouses is a table with colorful chairs where the kids play games, color or eat snacks…

I brought in the outdoor slide during the winter…

There’s an easel that is currently set up as a spelling board…

I found the magnetic white board at michael’s for $15. Works well sitting inside the melissa & doug easel tray so the kids can create words with letters or play with their word whammer.

On the opposite end of the playroom is a play table for the boys, an indoor basketball hoop (that extends to 6 feet in height), a drum set, stuffed animals and balls. There is also a comfy place for mom to sit while the tornado of activity goes on around us. 🙂

That dark room on the end is the kids tv room

You can also see in the above photo how many odd angles there are in this space. This space really shouldn’t have been a space to live in at all. It’s technically an attic. The living space is all on one level, and this is the only space on the 2nd level of the house. The far end of the playroom shown above is above our garage and that is why there is very little natural light/windows. The closets and attic also have odd angles.

If you plan well, you can turn an odd-shaped space into something incredibly fun!

There is a lego area tucked away in a corner…

I chatter about lego organization here.

The door to the left of the lego table is a game and dress-up closet, which can be found here.

Here is the view of the playroom from the kids tv room…

Of everything in the playroom, I have to admit what I love the most is the amount of open floor space. Open space is just as important as the items you choose for a playroom. I love that the kids can run and go crazy, especially when the weather doesn’t allow for running outdoors. I also realize the square footage of our playroom is more than most homes, and we are so grateful to have this space – but in any space you build out for playing, keep in mind that open space is an important factor. My kids spend more time in the open space than they do in the playhouses. 🙂 It’s true!

There is a bathroom up here as well as one additional storage closet, which I’ll be re-organizing soon. And because I hope you understand my playroom hardly ever looks as tidy and clean as the above photos, I thought you would enjoy seeing this…

How this space usually looks on any given day. And is just one of many photos I have on record to show exactly how much this playroom is loved.

🙂 And it really is loved.

We spend a lot of time here and have created many memories. The contents change with the age and seasons.

      Hi Samantha,

This play room is unbelievable! LOVE the play house! My girls would love that. Did you hire a contractor do build it? Is was really pricey?

    • hi patricia!

thank you so much for the sweet comments! when the house was built, our builder built it out. the houses are real walls in the house – just like every other wall. 🙂 a professional painter did the playhouse painting.

so glad you like it and wish your girls could play in the houses! they are fun!

      samantha 🙂
