organized scrapbook embellishments

Jul 16

happy monday, friends! hope you had a wonderful weekend! we did. my husband was traveling on business all of last week. the kids and i missed him so much. we spent the entire weekend with just our family unit enjoying the quality time.
this weekend i also had a moment to sneak away into my scrapbook nook. instead of scrapbooking, however, i spent the time organizing an issue that was bugging me. i’ve mentioned before that i am a pretty simple, no-fuss scrapper. and i am holding true to that with this post – so i hope the big word embellishment isn’t scaring you off!  but a few years ago, my mom sent me a great scrapbook kit for my birthday. it included tons of card stock, scrap pages, stickers and a zillion chipboard pieces and doo-dad’s and nick-nacks. here are a few of the items from the package she gave me. there is a small felt shape package and a large package of chipboard shapes…
this large package is great because it’s already labeled and organized…
and i love the cute chipboard pieces inside…
the issue from the package she sent was this little beauty…
yes, it came labeled like this in a perfect little plastic organizer…
i’m sure some of you are thinking “this is perfect” and wondering why i would want to fuss around with it. right?
well, it was actually not very functional. there are sooooo many teeny tiny pieces (you’ll see below!) and i was having a tough time digging around in the little compartments in order to find what i needed. to be honest, i didn’t really know what all was inside the compartments anyway. there were so many pieces crammed in and it was more of a hassle so i wasn’t using anything inside at all. it was too much work and essentially – a headache. so i gave up, tucked it away in the office closet and worked with the supplies that were easy for me to use/find.
then, last week at the grocery store i found this in the clearance section…

i’ve shared 2 other ways in which i have used this type of organizer in our home – 1 for organizing my jewelry and 1 for creating a hair accessory organizer for our daughter. i love these organizers! our grocery store (of all places) was selling this for only $2.59…

and when i found it, i knew exactly how i would use this = to organize ALL of those tiny embellishments.

so, this weekend i gathered up my items…

including the contents of the small plastic organizer…(i told you – look at how much stuff was crammed into that plastic organizer!)…

i freely admit here – i went to my happy place; sorting, organizing, and filling in all of those tiny pockets….

in addition to organizing those tiny pieces, i needed a spot where my misc decorations could be easily located. i love to keep cute greeting cards to use as chipboard art in my scrapbooks. do you do the same? here are some cute cards, for example…

i love cutting the cute parts off of greeting cards to use them in various spots of a scrapbook. super cute! but i needed a place to keep them within reach. i grabbed a pair of manicure scissors…

and cut the tiny string out of one pocket on the bottom. this turned 2 small pockets into 1 large pocket…

giving the cards a place to go…

then i sorted all of those tiny pieces into piles…hearts…

circles of various sizes…

squares…

sea and ocean life…

stars…

cute words…

and other misc decorations like crayons, owls, flip flops and more…

once i had everything separated into groups, i began placed them inside the pockets.

and here is the final product – side one….

and side two…

can you believe i filled this entire hanging organizer with the contents of that one little plastic organizer??!!

because this organizer is intended for hanging, it works perfectly hanging from the shelf beside my scrapbooking table

i also decided to hang the other 2 packages from their attached rings…

now there are no excuses not to use these cute embellishments. it is all accessible…the pieces i organized this weekend as well as my scrapbook stickers

if you’ve been challenged with trying to organize your own scrapbook items, i hope this organizational tip will help you. it’s definitely given me motivation to finish up and start some new scrapbooks! 🙂
