Simply Organized Home Office – with Martha Stewart

Aug 23

Happy Friday! Hope you have something great planned for the weekend. After this week full of home office organization tasks, this gal is ready for a much needed stress/work-free weekend. I’m spending time with precious friends, having brunch in the city and attending the America’s Cup. The joys of living in San Francisco, near family and friends…My weekend’s are changing dramatically.

But today – today – I couldn’t wait for today. The day on my calendar when the home office would be complete. To think I started here, post-home purchase and pre-paint…

Then post-paint (wall color is Benjamin Moore sleigh bells and trim color is Swiss coffee)…

And now this…

Happy, organized mommy blogger over here! 😉

During this Martha Stewart Back to Routine week, I’ve shared the following details of my new office:

Martha Stewart’s beautiful people sent me a box of candy and challenged me to put them to use in the new house…
The timing on this partnership couldn’t have been better! Uuummm, not to mention the timing of my getting those boxes unpacked…

Yes, this was only about 1/3 the office boxes. The remaining were stacked in the master bathroom behind the wall. Lovely.
Today, I’m sharing the details of my organized office shelving…
I received a few e-mails asking where the shelving was purchased. These are the studio wall shelves from pottery barn. I’ve owned these for 7 years and they are great quality and pretty/functional in any space. I’m considering a white version for my bathroom as a temporary storage unit until I invest in a new vanity/sink.
A little shelf by shelf tour, shall we….The starfish are from a trip to florida with friends…

Martha Stewart home office supplies tucked away here…

The basket on top contains scissors. Yup, well out of reach of those 6 little hands living here…

Next shelf down – this is the reason I breathe every day, my motivation to work hard and be the best person I can be…

The large basket next to the photo contains my label maker and supplies…

on the next shelf I have several Martha Stewart inboxes…

These are a beautiful way to control paper clutter. The white inboxes hold general papers I need to grab in a pinch…

The teal inboxes hold items to be paid or filed…

I added Martha’s adhesive metal bookplates…

On the next shelf…

The 4 magazine file boxes were found in the target $1 spot and hold my recipes to try and some of the kids school work that I am planning to organize/frame soon.

I also have 3 recycled boxes for storing away small supplies. remember that restoration hardware label on the top of the box? With a pretty flower dish resting on top, you’d never know that was there!…

The bottom shelf of the first wall unit…

Those are my boys 6 years ago on laguna beach. Boy, does time fly…

The magazine files behind the photo are empty, but not for long. The basket on the shelf is holding some oversized crafting items, like my newly discovered full sheet washi tape…

Moving on to the next wall unit, on the top shelf I have 2 empty baskets and a photo of my baby girl…Again from years ago. Wish I could keep them this small forever…

Next shelf…

This basket is holding my camera supplies…

Next shelf contains a few more diy organization projects I’ve shared before…

My diy dvd organizers…

in case you missed it

And my diy greeting card organizer…

in case you missed this one too

The box below the card organizer contains the white apple cords…

On the next shelf i gathered anything with a cord. Since this shelf is closest to the wall outlet, low enough to reach but not too low, and I could hide the cords at this level…This made sense to me….

If you have a basket with an opening on the side, consider creating a charging basket…

Items to charge are hidden away inside and the cords can be fed through the side to keep them out of view.

finally, on the last shelf…

The large binders on the right are greeting card organizers i assembled a while ago.

the binders on the left are my new coupon organizers, which I will be sharing more about next week…

I love special items with meaning. The sand in this jar is from ocean beach in San Francisco, the (freezing cold) beach I grew up on, and some of the shells are from this year’s spring break trip to clearwater. The remaining shells are potpourri. love this scent!

To the right of the shelves is my freshly painted white board…

Sometimes the kids play on this while I’m working or we use it for homework/math activities. That’s why you’ll find this low and not hanging on the wall. For now, I’ve added a few of Martha’s adhesive wall pockets…

Finally, beyond the white board are 2 rolling cart organizers…

I know this will sound crazy, but at some point this office may change when I add built-in storage. I know – here I have the office set up and i’m mentioning a change?? I don’t see that change happening for a while (thanks to many home issues that have been bumped up on the ‘ol to do list). In the meantime, I need to keep these storage carts for additional office supplies. I dressed up the drawers a bit with some washi tape…

Little touches make a big difference.

That’s it, my friends! My newly organized home office space. So in love!…

    Hi Sam,

A follower from the Southeast – Atlanta area. I love he new office! Wish I could wiggle my nose and teleport it here. And, I love, love, love the Pottery Barn shelves. Since I saw the blog yesterday, I have been wondering if I could use one for a bed side space. I have not had a night stand type piece in forever, and I need one.

    Anxiously awaiting the next post!

  4. It looks beautiful! It must feel calming to have a space that's organized and put together amidst the chaos of unpacking and getting settled. You've inspired me to work on my desk area today because it's a mess!

I am in LOVE with your office! And I love Martha's office supplies, it's a shame I haven't been able to find them here in Spain yet. I think it's great how you mix and match trays, binders and baskets! Just love everything about it to be honest =D

Awesome post! I have been following for awhile and admire your organizing skills and ways to make it look simple and pretty! I started my research awhile ago to organize my home office, and between you and Jen Jones I'm ready to get crackin'! 🙂 It's slow but steady since we just tore apart our main floor & my office is the only room left untouched with plastic sheeting to keep out the dust!…well, it sorta does : So keep up the great work! You inspire me with every post!! Thank you!

  8. Amazing! Just amazing! You did such a great job! Love it! I cant wait to fix my office up. I thought it was organized but girl you have inspired me to take it to another level!

  9. Sam, can you tell me where you found the full sheet washi tape? I've never seen it before but it excites me!
