Outdoor Update: Are Those Flowers?

Jun 27

The front yard is still a work in progress, but I have a fun little update to share – flowers!! Yes, something in the ground other than sprinklers, top soil and sod. Ha!
Anyway, I’m on an extended vacation right now and have a few blog posts to share while I’m away. This is where the front yard was about 2 weeks ago. A lot has changed already since snapping these pics and will continue to change, like the location of the hydrangeas (they appear to be getting too much afternoon sun. Tons of shade in the morning, but too much afternoon sun is making them sad.). And keep in mind, these plants and flowers are all planted as temporary ground cover until the kitchen remodel in a year or so. The house front is going to change, which means I had to pick items that can be (hopefully) relocated. Including that path! The reason I went with this particular path is to keep the materials and use them again in front or back.
I’ve added a row of star jasmine…

A row of beautiful evergreen bushes that will eventually grow together into a hedge. I wanted some dimension along the front of the left path…

There is a row of lavender…

If you’ve been reading along since day 1 of this home purchase, it’s hard to believe just how much this front yard has changed…

I just love this view!!!….

Along the back side, closest to the house on both the right and left sides of the path, I added several hydrangea bushes…

White hydrangea’s on the right side and colors on the left side…

And I added morning glories to both white lattice’s….

You can see we’ve figured out the drainage issue over here so I was able to move forward with the path. It’s not done yet, but it’s getting there. You can also see the pretty blue and pink hydrangea on this side…

In front of the hydrangea, I’m going to add another bordered section for annuals…

This are my absolute favorite flower!…

I’ve prepped the path with liner before laying the pea gravel and stones…

While I love seeing all the beautiful color, don’t get me wrong….I am constantly reminded there is still so much work to be done! Namely, these gardening items out front to remind me how slow this process is going…

The remaining path stones…

I have to take moments to enjoy the work that has been completed. This front yard has been a very tough, slow job with all the little issues from drainage to leveling and, of course, the expense of it all! But I have to remind myself, there has been big progress steps…

But if you need any gardening tools, I’ve got you covered. When I’m done, of course!…

This little plant was left behind by the previous owners but it was a tiny little nothing when we moved in. I had no idea what it was until spring arrived and it started blooming. Lucky me, it’s another hydrangea! Color to be determined upon blooming…

The morning glories are very happy in their new home…

That’s my little front yard update. Back soon with another in a few weeks. Hopefully it will be much different than this!
