Tween Boy Bedroom – It’s Done!

Sep 8

Happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend! Have some good news — I’m done in Aiden’s room! Yay to the hoo, people! Of course, I’m already onto the next big home improvement idea…I shared a little project sneak peak over the weekend on Instagram.
Let. There. Be. Light.

Please!!Seriously, you guys…my projects overlap. While one is being executed, the other is being planned out in the background. I love doing these and wouldn’t have it any other way. I love owning a home!!!

Anyway, back to Aiden’s room. Aiden’s turning 10 next month (what? how did that happen?!) and was due for a bedroom update. Before we moved to this house, the boys shared a room. They each had a bedroom, but chose to sleep together. My 8 year old has the bedroom set from the room they shared, so given Aiden’s upcoming double-digit birthday and the fact he needed a little something in the decor dept, it was the perfect time to knock out an update for him.
It all started back in July when my friends at Martha Stewart shipped off a beautiful closet system for his space. What was once this closet…
Is now this…
I shared all the details about the closet install right here. The closet system works really well for him, especially without the annoying sliding closet doors that were hanging prior to this. We updated the hangers too since his clothing was falling off the tiny white plastic little kid hangers. Once the closet was installed, I asked him what his ideal room would look like. He’s a sports guy, so most of the decorating was easy because we already have tons of sport-related items that belong to him, his dad and his grandfather (who is the ND grad). After talking to him about ideas, I got to work but kept in mind the way he functions in a space. This is the plan I came up with…
Let’s start with some before & afters! I created a zone for lounging with his siblings and friends. The wide open space in front of his closet was perfect for a lounge / reading area. What was once this…
Is now this…
The rug is from Home Goods and was desperately needed in here. It’s all hardwood in this room. The 8×10 rug warms up the floor a lot. The lounging bean bags are from Pottery Barn Teen. Directly across from the lounge zone was an oversized bookcase, which wasn’t being used well…and a TV that wasn’t mounted, which was a safety hazard…
Now there is a DIY Industrial Media Console, which I shared the plans for right here
And am happy to report the TV is mounted…
Aiden’s room functions as a guest room when people visit us. It’s always nice to have a TV available for guests. It looks much better without all of the cords behind it as well – ugh!…
We already had the bed (PB Kids Catalina) but his bedding needed an update. On the PB Teen site we found some great Angel’s Baseball bedding…

The jersey was a piece we already owned / was already framed…and I couldn’t have found a better place in the house for it!….
Did you scope out the new light?? I had this beaut installed before move-in for some overhead lighting…
Ceiling lights are one of those tough home improvement points for me. Don’t know why….maybe I’m just indecisive. ?? Anyway, I found this gorgeous flushmount from Lamps Plus…
It’s their Industrial Cage Ceiling Light  with Edison Bulbs – and it’s so cool!…
Looks great in here and adds a good amount of light. I had not ever ordered from Lamps Plus before. They offer free shipping and have stand-alone stores. I figured if I ordered it and didn’t like it, I could easily return it in person. Good thing we all liked it!
Most of our lights are on dimmers so it doubles as a night light too. But for the sale of nighttime reading, I grabbed a $15 bedside clip-on light from Target…
The nightstand is from PB Teen…
Love it!!! Tons of surface space and the drawer is huge inside.
His desk area used to look like this…
Now it looks like this…
The desk is from PB Teen and the chair is from Amazon….
You can see more desk images here. After the desk arrived, I added a few Martha Stewart Wall Manager components above it to free up most of his work space…
The cork strip is from Staples…

I stained the ledges to match the desk. These keep trophies and bobble heads off his desktop and out of the closet…
His bathroom is tiny, making it hard to get a good shot of the inside. But here’s a glimpse I was able to catch…

I moved his Giants poster to the bathroom and added another ND piece over the toilet. You can sorta see it in the mirror reflection here…

The ladder shelf is from Pottery Barn and has been a huge storage saver. There isn’t storage or shelving in here. The shelf holds extra towels, toilet paper and his bathroom supplies.

Behind his bedroom door are 2 cabinets…

The top cabinet holds extra bedding and storage boxes. The bottom holds his organized Legos
That’s it, friends! Finally finished. He loves his bedroom! Actually, his little bro and sis love it too….as well as his new little best friend that lives next door. They run straight to his room when he comes over.
Hope you enjoyed a view into his space! Now I move on to outdoor lighting! 😉
