It appears I have found my main area of expertise in this world of organization. Would you be surprised to know that residential space is the garage? Probably not! I’ve mentioned my deep love of this space before, but I seem to fall harder after each and every garage project. And the e-mail inquiries from new clients that need garage help is pretty much off the charts. Love it!

The garage is definitely my favorite space to organize. It comes naturally to me and my space planning abilities. But what I love the most is truly making that impact and transformation for families. This is the space most of us come and go from – it certainly makes you smile to open that garage door to see only organized simplicity.

In general, when a family contacts me they don’t have cabinetry installed yet. It’s always fun to start with that blank slate. But sometimes I have the great pleasure of organizing in an already stunning garage with incredible cabinets.

That was the case for this sweet family of 5.

BEFORE

These cabinets were designed and installed by California Closets. They truly are spacious and beautiful! Each section is 2′ deep giving them loads of storage. However, sometimes the challenge with closed cabinetry is finding bins and containers to fit inside. We definitely want those doors to close snuggly.

No worries here – I was on it!

DURING

After inventorying everything and sourcing the best bins for the space, I came up with a game plan. In less than 1 hour we had everything out of the cabinets and sorted.

AFTER

Then we quickly purged with the homeowner and got the keeps put away. Simply and beautifully.

The bins up top contain their Christmas and Easter Decor. These are the perfect garage bins – with 6 tight closing clasps, they keep contents safe and secure while keeping bugs and garage dust out…

They fit perfectly along the top of their garage shelves. Which meant we had plenty of room inside the cabinets to contain everything from skis to luggage…family memorabilia to tools…wedding china to more Christmas decor…

My favorite variety of clear bins come from The Container Store. It’s “their storage boxes” and they come in a wide array of sizes. That helps so much when working in a confined space such as closed cabinets. I used a combination of deep sweater boxes, regular sweater boxes, mens shoe boxes and small shoe boxes. Turned out beautifully!
