Cleaning Quickly and Naturally with Microfiber

Oct 27

Halloween is a few days away, but does anyone else hear the ringing of holiday season bells? I know, brace yourself and take in a deep pumpkin-spiced breath. It’s coming – and fast!

It’s the time of year we decorate, open our homes for gatherings and host overnight guests. Life is already busy and hectic, but the holidays ramp up your to-do list a notch (or ten). When it’s busy, the last thing I have time for or want to do is carve out long periods of time for cleaning. Especially my floors and windows, which generally takes the most time. My 3 kiddos and their great group of neighborhood friends give my floors and doors a good daily beating. On any given week I can let it go a couple days because it’s a waste to clean the floors each and every day when 3 kids are living here. But when I’m entertaining or host guests overnight, I love to welcome them with a clean floor and sparkling windows that don’t scream “3 kids and their friends were here!”.

I’d been hearing a lot about cleaning with microfiber but, maybe like some of you, was having a hard time making that transition. Most of us grew up in a house that “smelled” clean after it was cleaned. I totally fall prey to that habit and way of thinking / feeling. I love nothing more than walking into a home that “smells like” fresh lemon. But I also know spraying chemicals all over my counters, tables, floors, doors and windows isn’t good for my kids, pets and certainly the environment. I’ve had to re-train myself, clean with microfiber and now I enjoy lighting a candle to get that fresh smell in the air.

The truth is, the very best way to clean almost everything in your home is with water…and microfiber. Period. It works, it saves money, it’s good for your kids and pets, and it’s good for the environment. I recently discovered Microfiber Wholesale products and have been loving their ease of use and how well they really clean the house. Especially the floors and kitchen table! Since the holidays are coming I wanted to share this product with you and show you a couple areas in my own home where I’ve been using microfiber.

Before I show you, there’s no judging allowed! I may be an excellent organizer and keep my house tidy, but cleaning isn’t something I naturally gravitate to. Yes, I do clean…but for the sake of this blog post I let these areas go for several days.

This particular area of my house is high traffic…

We come and go from the house through the garage, which is where that door leads to. The kitchen and table are another high traffic area…

We are a “no shoe” house but the dust, dirt, crumbs and pet hair add up over a couple days – and it really shows in this area. And of course, I see it more often in here because I’m walking through these areas constantly. Previous to Microfiber Wholesale products I would vacuum and then mop or swiffer. After watching these videos and trying Microfiber Wholesale products that completely changed.

Now that you know how the mop works, here’s how I used the same process on my floors. I first used the mop pad to gently gather up all the loose bits, dirt, dust and more from the floor. And then followed up with the wet mop to thoroughly clean the floors – with only water! The pads are great quality, soft and won’t damage your flooring…

Look at my floors before – yuck!…

Following their directions I made one long sweep through and here’s what the mop picked up first…

I know, gross. But here was the final little pile…and hey, there was that cat toy we had been looking for! It was stuck under a low profile buffet. The mop lays flat to the ground which made it great for reaching and dusting under my buffet. Fun treasures were discovered under there!…

The dry dust mop won’t miss a thing!…

Another benefit to using microfiber is that you aren’t spending money on vacuum bags, mop heads or other throw-away products like Swiffer. Feels great knowing you aren’t adding to the landfill. Because all you need to do to clean these mop heads is to wash them as you would anything else in the house – in the washer!

With the loose pieces collected and thrown away, to wet mop the floors I just soaked the wet pad in water…

Rung out the excess water…

Mopped the floors…

And let them dry. Look at this shine you guys! Again, with only water and microfiber!…

One area I couldn’t wait to tackle with Microfiber Wholesale products was my kitchen table. This surface gets some serious love…many times over in a day too! I have a lot of wood furnishings in the house and not only do they show everything, but they are hard to clean. We can’t use sprays on these surfaces, so what I would do at the end of the day was simply wipe down the table with a damp cloth. But it always looked dull and never had that nice shine when I was done. Using microfiber makes it shine! Starting with this yucky tabletop…

All I did was use their green microfiber cloth, dampen it with water and rung out the excess…

I completely wiped down the table top…

Then immediately used a dry green microfiber cloth to dry the table and give it this incredible shine…

Not kidding when I say the tabletop looks brand new and it feels so soft and clean. Not dull or as if there’s still something coating the surface…

The green cloth also comes in the Microfiber Wholesale glass cleaning kit…

These 2 cloths are all you need to get the most incredible shine on your windows! Or most any other surface around your home and car. If you have children you can relate to the smudged glass or mirrored surfaces around your home…

These scenes can be found all around my house. I have 4 sets of french doors and each pane of glass at their level has a smudge or handprint…

To clean your windows, all that’s necessary is using the dampened green cloth to wipe down the window…

And then using the glass cloth, dry the window to a perfect shine…

Again – this result is from using only water. Not a spray! And this set of cloths is also cleaned by washing in your washing machine. No waste!

Here’s a great video about the glass cleaning system…

And if you want to know more about this green solution to cleaning, here’s a great video…

I’m a visual person, so these videos pulled me in.

Microfiber is the best way to clean nearly every surface in your home. It’s quick, easy, cost-effective and environmentally-friendly. Microfiber Wholesale offers so many great products, all of which can be found on Amazon. Are any of you contemplating the change over to microfiber? If so, I hope this post was helpful. I struggled to make the change over too, but it’s been more than worth it!

p.s. I hope you can forgive me for being exposed to our dirty little spaces!

Hi Samantha! Sweeping/mopping the floors is one of my most dreaded cleaning chore so this post looks incredible and promising. I have a question though, since dust tends to cling to wet cloths, is it easy to wash the microfiber pads? Thanks!

    • Samantha says:

      Hi Jenny!

It’s mine as well since I have 3 kids running through the house all the time. Yes, it is very easy to wash the pads. Since making the change over, I’ve washed them several times and they have held up perfectly and always come out of the wash without fuzz attached. I make sure to brush off as much dust and fuzz as possible before tossing into the washing machine – this may be helpful.

      Thank you!
      Sam

    Hi Sam,

I have to agree with you. Microfiber cloths are all I use on glass and tables. I also only use water and the microfiber mop. Both always do an excellent job. It makes cleaning the floors so much easier. I wash mine over and over and they still work great. I think it is better for the wood floor also. 🙂

      Hi Cathy!

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts – I love knowing what everyone else is doing. I feel the same way, especially after making the change a few months ago. Really happy with how my floors and tables have been looking.

      xoxo,
      Sam

Oh my goodness – I bought these on your recommendation and I absolutely love them. I have a big doberman and tiny Chihuahua and they shed like crazy. The duster picks up all of those pesky dog hairs as well as everything else. I love the way it flattens to go underneath everything. And the mop works great, too, especially on my wood floors.

I'd Love To Hear From You!
