Organized Baseball Gear

Apr 13

Hey everyone! Wow, have I missed being here with you! Been a solid couple weeks since I shared a blog post. Between a full client load, 2 different spring break weeks, preparations for a speech (which finally happened last night – whew!) and everything else in my mommy life – I haven’t had a moment to get in here to update or share. Being here brings me so much joy and fulfills me in ways only a fellow writer / blogger can totally appreciate / understand. I know I say this every time I’m here, but I have SO much to share! There’s simply not enough time in the day. I see some pockets of time ahead on my calendar (don’t speak too soon, Sam!) so I’m hoping to be around here much more in the coming weeks.

Oh, in that list of what’s keeping me from blogging…did I mention baseball season? Yes, to know Sam is to know my love of the SF Giants and pro baseball. But what I’m talking about is Little League. My boys are both playing and are on 2 different teams. #luckyme Between the schedules to stay on top of and their gear, I sorta threw in the towel last week and re-adjusted my garage shelving to create one section specifically to keep their gear organized and at the ready…

You’ll remember a few weeks ago I shared some thoughts about garage shelving. And it’s true. Shelving matters. If you can’t afford to invest in a wall-mounted system like the one I shared in that post, the next best thing is shelving that’s adjustable and has the option of adding cool, useful components. I’ve owned these black InterMetro Shelves for years. And when I need to tweak them, it’s as simple as running driving to The Container Store to grab this or that. I have 4 in total, with only 3 in use right now. For adjustments this time, it was simply a matter of reconfiguring the shelves to maximize space and the addition of 3 drawers. The beauty with a system like this is that when baseball season is over, I can turn this shelf into the staging area of our current sport. We don’t do anything in the summer, but this will be great come Fall for their football and basketball gear.

Starting at the bottom, these skateboards were driving me nuts floating around on the garage floor. I created one shelf on the bottom to get them out of the way. And keep us safe. With the exception of a few small things, everything else you see is baseball heaven. A place for mitts, bats and our bases for the front lawn..

The storage baskets are awesome for containing balls – easy for the boys to grab the basket right off the edge of the shelf, play outside and then put everything away when they’re done…

If you have a catcher, you know all too well the gear is bulky. I have all the catcher’s gear organized right here in one basket shelf

My newest organization treat to myself are these 3 drawers

Previously, there were many small items floating around on shelves or in baskets. They were getting lost in the shuffle and are items not always being used. These drawers made perfect sense! One contains ball pumps and needles, one contains batting and football gloves, and the final drawer contains all of the chargers for the electronic cars in the garage…

The next shelf has a few bins that contain sunblock, shoe deodorant powder, sidewalk chalk (my daughters likes to play with this at games) and other small misc sports gear items…

The next couple shelves contain bleacher seats (these are a Godsend for saving your back during those 90 minute – 2 hours games) and some picnic bags I occasionally bring to weekend day games…

No, we haven’t added golf to our schedule. The last thing this mom needs is another activity to keep up with! We pace ourselves around here…but those golf balls sure look pretty nice in that bin. heh!

With plenty of room left to spare, the luggage that was looking for a home now has somewhere to live…

The perfect final touch (that didn’t cost my anything) is that their baseball bags hang so nicely off the side of the shelves…

Seriously, a place for everything.

After the conditions we were dealing with previously, this is a breath of fresh air! It’s been helpful to find everything with ease, put everything away and when I ask the boys to pack up – they can easily help me too!

The InterMetro Shelving is currently on sale if you’re interested in taking a look. When it comes to shelving, make sure you’re buying something that can adjust to your changing lifestyle. And can be easily adjusted without ripping your hair out. These are so easy to set up and adjust over time.

Happy baseball season everyone and have a great day!
