fun summer kid activity: oreo moon phases

Jun 15

happy friday!

with our 3 angels home from school for the summer, i’m alternating between organization projects that mommy wants to get done and fun activities the kids want to do. right now i’m keeping everyone happy and satisfied…i think. ask me how i’m doing come july! πŸ™‚

last week the kids and i did a fun, educational and yummy activity about the 8 phases of the moon. the activity involved paper….and oreos! what kid (or adult) wouldn’t love that?

i grabbed a heavy sheet of 12×12 cardstock from my scrapbook supplies and drew one long vertical line and 8 short horizontal lines…

then, i wrote in the 8 phases of the moon next to each of the shorter lines…

the kids and i had fun cutting (and eating) the oreos to create what each moon phase looks like…

then, we matched each oreo with it’s correct moon phase description…

it was a really fun activity!…

when the lesson was over, all we needed was a glass of milk…

this is a great summer activity to do with your kids. here is the sheet we used for the activity…

if you’d like to do this with the children in your life, you can download it right here…

    Looks so fun.

  3. I love this idea! Learning and eating too! I wonder if I can make a giant cookie and re-create the event from a couple of weeks ago, when Venus crossed the Sun…eating my way across πŸ™‚
