My Home Interior Paint color palate

Aug 7

Guess what?

The house interior is completely painted – including the garage. Yup = truth. Not sure what I’m most excited about…

a. The fact this job (which took one full month to complete) is finally over and done with

b. The fact that I’m head over heels in love with the colors/paint finish and how the colors blend from room to room

c. The fact that the house looks/smells so clean and new (not like a litter box)

d. The fact I didn’t implode during the paint color choice phase

e. All of the above

Who am I trying to fool? You guys know it’s D! Remember when I  obsessed over spoke about paint here and here? Let’s just say this girl is so happy with the outcome. Actually, even more happy this phase of home improvement is behind me. I don’t think there is anything quite worse than choosing paint colors. If you don’t have a natural eye for it, you are capable of hitting unprecedented levels of frustration.

Nope, not talking from experience on that one. 😉

Today, I’m excited to finally share my official interior paint color palate. Sit back and get comfortable too – there are quite a few pictures to scan through. To keep the colors as true as possible, I did very little photo editing. While some images will look darker than normal, this keeps the wall color looking as accurate as possible for those of you looking for paint ideas right now. I’m also sharing various angles of each room because the color changes with how much light is or isn’t in the space.

The boys have the same wall color…

Although this color is called gray mist, it’s really a beautiful light cream color, with subtle light gray undertones. I went lighter in their rooms because most of the furnishings are darker shades.

Daughter’s room…

Athena is a beautiful true light gray color…

Should I decide to add an accent wall, it would be easy to match a coral or pink to this wall color…

Guest room and connected guest bathroom…

Vapor trails is a slightly darker shade of Athena, in my opinion…

Hallway, entry and ceilings…

For the one hallway in the house, I chose this light, almost white, sea pearl color. This same color is on most of the ceilings throughout the house…

Kids bathroom…

wickham gray is on the beadboard and sea pearl is on the top wall and ceiling…

Living room and dining area…

Love doesn’t even come close! It’s so light and airy…

Fireplace…

Do you remember what it used to look like?…

It was in desperate need of some paint love…

This fireplace likely won’t be here after the kitchen remodel, so it was fun to paint…

Silver drop and metropolitan compliment each other well…

Kitchen…

Have I mentioned how much I look forward to demoing this kitchen floor tile? Did I tell you i’m doing the demo work on my own? This girl will have a field day on this one.

🙂

The kitchen doesn’t have a lot of wall space for paint, so I chose another very light grayish-white color to keep it bright…

The fireplace brick wraps around from the living room. The brick on the kitchen side of the wall is also painted paper white…

Family/Playroom…

I love love love this color! it’s a rich gray tone…

The white trim really pops in this room…

You can see here how the colors flow well from room to room…

Dolphin fin makes its way up the stairs and then stops where the left wall meets the back office wall…

Since we’re at the stairs now, here’s how they used to look…

Those black rails looked like a big stop sign. To soften them, we painted them the trim color. Doesn’t that small detail make a huge impact?…

Am still deciding if the stair treads will remain black. Once I get to the hardwood floor replacement phase, I’ll make that decision.

Office…

We also painted the top rail of this short wall. Used to be black…

now it’s white to match the trim…

Master bathroom…

You can see how the color blends well with the office, which is right outside this door…

master bedroom…

Master closet…

Most of this wall space will be covered. I’m currently designing a custom closet. More on that soon!…

Laundry room, garage, front door, french doors, window frames/sills, and trim throughout the house…

Can’t wait to work on projects right here…

The front door will change with the kitchen remodel. For now, a clean coat of swiss coffee on both sides…

As far as the paint finish, my painter used Benjamin Moore regal select matte finish on all walls throughout the house, with the exception of the laundry room and garage – which are eggshell. The matte finish paint cleans like an eggshell, so it will hold up to little handprints and more. I knew I would love the matte finish, but didn’t know just how deep that love would go. It looks like velvet. And it makes the entire house feel and look warmer. If you want to get a true feel for the paint before and afters, make sure you check out the photos of my interior home tour. Those images were snapped long before paint. And are proof that paint can change the feel of any home.

That’s it, friends – the home interior paint choices I agonized over for months. If you have any additional questions, you know where to find me 😉

It looks beautiful, but I expected nothing less!,:). Honestly, I can barely tell a difference in the colors…maybe it's the camera! I am not sure which floors you are replacing, but I think your hardwoods look gorgeous!!

  2. Very pretty, calm, clean paint color chooses. They look great in the rooms.

  3. Lynnsey says:

This is so timely because I am choosing between shades like this for my kitchen and living area. I am generally drawn to much bolder color for walls but I am making an effort to brighten things up for these last two rooms. This is a great sampling of colors I have in mind!! Do you have a favorite one? My husband will only buy Ben Moore, so I guess that can narrow down my choices.

Is your laundry room in your garage? I really like your house!

  4. Jessica says:

Wow, looks great and so fresh. I am beyond thrilled you chose to use Silver Drop! I love it in our basement and it looks great in your space too. We debated Dolphin Fin for our living room, but went with something warmer.

  5. Jessica says:

I am beyond thrilled you went with Silver Drop! I find it dreamy.

Everything looks so fresh and updated.

  6. Pretty colors. I always use BM regal matte. Love it.

  7. Unknown says:

Did you paint the ceilings the same color throughout the house?

  8. Unknown says:

Did you paint all of the ceilings the same color?

  9. Mike says:

What type of sheen you used, and what color are the ceilings? Looks great!

  10. Hi, Love your beautiful home and the choices you made decorating it. Would you be able to tell me which ceiling and trim white (swiss coffee, sea pearl or true white) you used with each of your wall colors? i.e. with Dolphin fin did you use swiss coffee trim and sea pearl ceiling or just true white? what about the other wall colors? silver drop, athena, sleigh bells, wickham gray, silver drop, etc. Thank you so much for the inspiration!

Love this! We just bought a house and are wanting to paint the walls grey. We have dark grey couches and black tables. We want steal-blue accents in the kitchen and dark red accents in the living room. Is there a light grey color that you can suggest that will go well with those?

    • Personally, I love Silver Drop and think it accents other colors really well! All of the grays I've shared here would work fine, but the Sliver Drop gray would go nicely with the other colors you mentioned!

      xo,
      Sam

  12. Christelle H says:

sorry the matt finish does not wash like the eggshell I learn the hard way also the mat finish is impossible to retouch you will see it:( I love the regal eggshell its really a true durable paint 🙂 my whole house is also painted BM

    • I'm sorry to hear that! Our matte finish has been holding up great – after two years….and I am constantly wiping walls or touching up. You can't tell what's new or not. I do love all the BM colors…and my painter mixed other colors with BM paints too. Great product!

      xo,
      Sam

  13. […] was a big day. with the house completely painted, today’s schedule included carpet installation, 2 closet design consults, and meetings/phone […]

  14. annie says:

I’m sorry, but what trim color did you use? and should you always use the same trim color throughout
    your house?

    Thanks for any info!

    • Samantha says:

All of the trim is Swiss Coffee and all the ceilings are Sea Pearl.

      xo,
      Sam

      • annie says:

Thank you, also, did you use egg-shell finish with those trim colors? I usually use semi-gloss on trim, but
am certainly willing to consider another choice.

Thanks again! geat site, I will return often and buy Benjamin Moore…. such beautiful paint colors!

        Annie

  15. Nikki says:

Benjamin Moore Classic Gray and Gray Mist seem to be very similiar. Do you know what the main difference is between the two? I’m struggling with choosing one or the other. Did you consider Classic Gray?

    • Samantha says:

      Hi Nikki!

I’ve never seen Classic Gray, but would guess Gray Mist has more brown in it. Gray Mist does have more of a greige look…definite light brown tones in the paint. My guess is that Classic Gray may have more blue undertones. ??

      Hope that helps!
      Sam

  16. Suzanne says:

In your guest bedroom and bathroom that has Ben Moore Vapor Trails, I’m curious what color decor/linens, etc you chose to accent with. TIA!

I'd Love To Hear From You!
