Check In: My Home Office

Dec 19

As 2018 comes to a close, I’m spending more time in my home office. And there will be even more time spent here over the holiday break downtime. I’m cleaning out files, deciding what items need to go because I didn’t make use of them this year, and soon I’ll be digging into deeper topics like what the goals are for 2019. Hello…HIRING ORGANIZERS!

At a minimum, I am excited and honored to share Lowe’s is keeping me on board for an additional 3 months! Yay! Be on the lookout for new fun projects to come in Q1 of 2019!

I can’t begin to describe how happy this space makes me…

Updating my home office was the best business decision of 2017! You may recall how it looked before

I sold the old office set and painted…what a difference alone in the brighter paint choice…

I brought in brighter furniture that gave the room more light and a ton of surface space to spread out / work on projects…

( desk | drawer system )

I added a cozy area rug

( rug )

And until the desk finally arrived, I got organized. Really pared it down to the most loved and used…

Next I added floating shelves and waited a little longer for the desk of my dreams…

But when that desk arrived … In. Love. ….

It certainly beat living like this for a few months…

The final touch was organizing the 3 minimal drawers…

The drawers were the extra fun part of the project! Small drawers enforce limits. I have a lot of planner accessories and pens, but these drawers ensure only the most loved are front and center.

Anyway, just over a year later, this space has proven time and again to motivate and inspire me to continue full steam ahead in this business. As the year closes out, I thought this would be a great time to update you on the space. Many times you see a blogger share their office makeover…and it’s beautiful. But does it really hold the test of time?

Mine does!

Not only does this office make me smile every day (it’s right outside my bedroom door so even when I’m not working in here, I pass by and still love seeing it!), it really is functional and classically styled to be long-lasting. The storage space is perfect – I have a lot of stuff in here…all of which I use…but there’s still room to grow. I won’t add more, of course…just saying.

This week was particularly tough as I faced a 6th round of divorce mediation. It was a brutal Monday. I bought myself flowers last week in preparation and lit my favorite winter candle every single day…

This book is a visual motivation. It was given to me by the author, Grace Bonney, at a Better Homes & Gardens event in 2017. Special…

Honestly, I haven’t changed much other than adding a few more of my favorite pens…

I keep the main desktop to a minimum so on any given day I can spread out my work. Not sure about you, but my entire office needs to be cleaned up before I sit down to work. Something about that visual clutter…it is like a big stop sign to me.

This was my version of a trash can…still works incredibly well! And again, forces limits…

This year I partnered with so many amazing companies, one being Deflecto. They sent me this incredible grouping of tilt bins…

( tilt bins | 3-drawer organizer )

The acrylic 3-drawer organizer works great for washi tape…or other small things. Love both and they have been a nice addition to help keep my office organized.

A few months ago I shared my DIY Post-It Project Wall Manager. This was another update this year and has been a total game changer!…

A few weeks ago I announced on IG that I’ll be selling my house in the Spring. I’ll share more details soon and you will certainly enjoy seeing the little improvements made before it hits the market…but I have NO doubt this home office will easily transfer to my next home and new chapter. I am NOT getting rid of this desk or leaving it here. It’s discontinued and I can’t count how many people have messaged me asking where they can find it. I wish they would bring it back! It truly is the perfect desk!…

So many blogs I’ve slowly stopped following bc they’ve gotten away from why i started following them (organizing, fitness, renovation, etc.). I didn’t stop following your blog bc, when you do post, you are on topic and on point. Love when you post. Love your posts, Insta and videos. Thank you for your recent transparency. Merry Christmas.

Oh my gosh – what a compliment! Thank you so so much for your comment and for taking the time to leave one here. I can also totally relate to what you’re talking about with blogger switching gears.

Thank you for motivating me to keep going on this path ahead….it’s all organizing all the time over here…but there is going to be more personal posts next year. I’ll need to outlet with all the change coming my way. 🙂

Thank you again and Merry Christmas!

You are absolutely inspiring! Your IG feed and blog is helping kick off this year to really focus and get things done. I hope you stay in the Bay Area – it would be awesome to have a pro nearby because I know I’m going to get stuck on a project and will probably need help. Wishing you nothing but the best in 2019 and know that there are lots of people out there rooting for you!!! Go Sam!!!
